Hello darling readers. I received an email this week, and the person signed off with:
Contain multitudes, XXXXX
I wrote that down and stuck it on my cork board, and have been staring at it for the past few days. I’m a little jealous. Who would have thought that an email sign-off could prompt so much introspection? I need to craft a better email sign-off. But I digress.
I don’t believe in the idea that you are stuck in the boxes you place yourself in. You and I contain multitudes. You can do anything and be anything you want.
And so this week, I signed up for a 150-hour Code Academy course.
I’m familiar with the rudimentary elements of coding. HTML and I mildly get along. But I REALLY want to learn how to code. Like software engineer-level coding. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m 2% into my 150-hour course on coding, and I’m thoroughly enjoying myself.
Because of this one damn email sign-off, I might just switch career paths and go into tech1. Who would have thought!
Not that I’m an influencer, but the idea of “finding your niche” on social media is quite dull to me. I get the overarching message. You find your community by choosing one thing and sticking with it. But you and I, and everyone else, contain multitudes. And the internet is the perfect place to experiment and test new creative pursuits.
If we REALLY want to dive into pop culture this week, I think Gabby Windey is the epitome of containing multitudes. I’m obsessed with this woman. Every time one of her videos shows up on my “for you” page, I just KNOW I’m going to giggle.
Windey was an ICU nurse, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, a contestant on The Bachelor who then became the Bachelorette, who then became a lesbian, married comedian Robby Hoffman, and just won the third season of Traitors. She contains multitudes. For your viewing pleasure, just watch this.
I think one of the best things about the Internet is that people can inspire you to do something that could quite possibly change your life. Not to pat myself on the back, but I’ve curated my TikTok to the point that I just KNOW I’m going to see a quote or an idea or a recipe or an outfit that inspires me for the rest of the day, week, or even year, and I have a notebook near me at all times to scribble it down. I think the best types of creators are the ones that inspire you to break out of the boxes you’ve placed yourself in. Here are some of my favorites recently:
Flowgogirl - I’ve started doing pushups every morning because of her.
Rocco Frattasio - A poet!!! I love the way he strings words together.
Minor changes bring down major structures baby2. You just have to believe in the idea that you contain multitudes, and then the whole world opens up for you.
My suggestions to you this week:
Change your email sign-off to something whimsical and send me an email.
Pick up Parade by Rachel Cusk. I’m thoroughly enjoying reading this book and I think you will too.
Physically take notes about TikToks that inspire you. Just try it.
Just kidding but I do think UX/UI design is incredibly helpful to understand in literally any industry.
Rachel Cusk’s beautiful words in Parade
love this!!!! we contain multitudes!!!! (would forever be embedded into my mind now)
need to tap into reading this .....
